Satyananda Math in Greece

“The more we give, the greater we become, we learn to see ourselves in others. Their suffering becomes our suffering and their joy our joy.”

Swami Satyananda Saraswati

Over the last years we have seen the activities of Satyananda Math grow side by side with the increasing needs of our society in Greece. As the needs grew, so the need to serve grew in response to these challenging times. More and more people are offering assistance whether in the form of time, effort or resources to those less privileged, with compassion and kindness. Uniting our efforts to help those in need is a source of inspiration for all of us in these troubled times. It instills us with the hope and motivation to meet the challenges that lie ahead. Each moment brings an opportunity for every one of us join head, heart and hands together to assist those in need around us. No effort is considered too small. All efforts combined enact to make a change, a transformation in the society we live in and also within ourselves. We invite you all to take this opportunity to come and offer your time and energy.

Swami Savikalpananda Saraswati

"Real success is not measured by status monetary gain or any personal achievement, but by how much one is able to offer others in their time of need, for their upliftment and for the removal of their distress."

Swami Satyananda Saraswati

Satyananda Math
Satyananda Math is the charitable and philanthropic arm of Satyanandashram Hellas. It was founded by Swami Sivamurti in 1991 in honor of her guru Swami Satyananda with the aim to uplift, elevate and bring joy to the less privileged and those in need. From the Greek philo (loving) and anthropo (human) philanthropic means ‘love of human kind’.

Activities of Satyananda Math – in partnership with local communities
There are a number of philanthropic projects which serve as real expressions of the Satyananda Yoga teachings. These activities and projects, in partnership with local community organizations in various parts of Greece, respond fully to the vision of Swami Satyananda’s mandate which he received from his guru Swami Sivananda: ‘serve, love and give’:
Swami Satyananda’s unending service to those who found themselves in less fortunate circumstances is seen in the ethos of Satyananda Math, which can be seen by the array of its activities.

Satyananda Math and the women’s groups in Greece
Satyananda Math is largely supported by the women’s groups in Greece, initiated by Swami Sivamurti in 2006 to address the needs of the Greek women. These groups are now firmly established in:
Athens, Thessaloniki, Kavala, Volos, Larisa, Mitilini, Kalamata and Patras.

Satyananda Math will be an enormous movement in Greece and as Swami Satyananda has said: “Satyananda Yoga will spread like fire throughout Greece.” It will be a way of life.

Take care of the needs of others, and your needs will be taken care of, take care of the prosperity of others and your prosperity will be taken care of, take care of the liberation (Moksha) of others and your liberation (Moksha) will be taken care of. Serve the poor, give food to the hungry ones, care for the sick ones, go from door to door and see what their problems are, this is the only way to reach peace. These are the commands of Christ and of all the spiritual masters “Love your neighbor as your Self”. “Do to others what you would wish others to do to you”. One doesn’t need to know anything else. The secret is just to put it into practice.
